IBM
IBM announced a $150 billion U.S. investment over five years, including $30 billion to expand domestic production of its mainframe and quantum systems. CEO Arvind Krishna said the move reflects IBM's long-standing commitment to American innovation and advanced computing. The decision follows President Trump’s recent tariff policy, which excluded certain tech components, and positions IBM to strengthen U.S. leadership in AI and high-performance computing. IBM, which reported better-than-expected Q1 revenue of $14.54 billion, also introduced its z17 AI mainframe this month. The company’s investment mirrors Nvidia’s similar pledge to manufacture AI infrastructure in the U.S.
U.S. Stocks
U.S. stocks were mixed Monday as investors looked ahead to a heavy week of earnings reports, economic releases, and updates on global trade talks. The S&P 500 edged up 0.06% to notch its fifth straight gain, while the Dow rose 0.28% and the Nasdaq slipped slightly. Big tech stocks were under pressure ahead of key earnings, with Apple and Meta closing modestly higher, Microsoft dipping, and Amazon falling. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said progress was being made on some trade fronts, though clarity on China remains limited. Meanwhile, Wall Street remains cautious as elevated tariffs and political uncertainty cloud the outlook for future corporate performance.
