U.S. Stocks

U.S. stocks dropped significantly on Wednesday, with the Dow Jones suffering its biggest decline in over a month, falling nearly 410 points. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq also saw losses of 0.92% and 1.6%, respectively, as rising Treasury yields weighed on investor sentiment. The 10-year Treasury yield hit a new high for the year, raising concerns about the economic impact of sustained higher interest rates. Large-cap stocks like Apple, Nvidia, and Meta saw notable declines, and McDonald’s shares fell over 5% following an E. coli outbreak linked to its burgers.

Technology

Apple

Apple has launched a beta version of several AI-driven features, including a highly anticipated integration with ChatGPT. These tools, collectively known as Apple Intelligence, have been in developer previews and will soon be available to the public with the release of iOS 18.1. Among the new features are text-rewriting tools, an emoji generator, and AI image manipulation. ChatGPT integration allows users to ask more complex questions, with Siri directing these to OpenAI’s chatbot when necessary. While investors hope these AI innovations will drive demand for new iPhone models, Apple’s full range of AI capabilities is being rolled out gradually.
