Oil

Crude oil futures jumped over 4% on Tuesday as President Trump issued stark warnings to Iran and demanded its unconditional surrender, heightening fears of supply disruptions amid rising Middle East tensions. U.S. July West Texas Intermediate settled at $74.84 per barrel, while August Brent closed at $76.45, both up nearly 5% in subsequent trading. Trump’s threats against Ayatollah Khamenei and calls for Tehran’s evacuation coincided with U.S. military repositioning to the region. Despite the volatility, markets remain relatively calm thanks to ample global inventories, increased OPEC+ output, and record U.S. production. Analysts caution that a more severe escalation, such as an attack on Iran’s export facilities or a closure of the Strait of Hormuz, could send oil prices soaring above $100 per barrel.

Tesla

Tesla shares dropped almost 4% on Tuesday following reports that the Austin factory will pause Cybertruck and Model Y output for a week beginning June 30 to perform maintenance, the plant’s third shutdown in the past year. The halt comes just days after Tesla announced it will debut a Model Y robotaxi in Austin on June 22, fitted with a future version of its “Full Self-Driving” software. Meanwhile, local activists staged safety demonstrations highlighting concerns over Tesla’s partially automated driving features, which have been linked to numerous collisions.
