BMW

BMW has lowered its 2024 profit margin outlook due to weak demand in China and complications related to a braking system supplied by Continental. The company said more than 1.5 million vehicles are affected by the braking issue, with 320,000 still undelivered. As a result, BMW faces significant warranty costs and expects a drop in vehicle deliveries for 2024, causing its stock to drop nearly 12%, its biggest loss in over four years. Continental's shares also declined as a result of the issue.

Technology

OpenAI

OpenAI is set to introduce a new AI model called "Strawberry" in the next two weeks, according to a report. Unlike typical conversational AIs, Strawberry is designed to "think" before responding, enhancing reasoning abilities. It will be part of the ChatGPT service but function as a standalone offering. Initially, Strawberry will only handle text input and output, lacking multimodal capabilities like image processing. This release follows OpenAI's successful growth, with over 1 million paying users for its business products, supported by strong adoption of its AI technologies.

SpaceX

SpaceX's Polaris Dawn mission successfully launched on Tuesday from Florida aboard a Falcon 9 rocket, carrying the Dragon capsule “Resilience” into orbit. This mission, the first of three funded by billionaire Jared Isaacman, marks a significant milestone as the crew plans to attempt the first-ever private spacewalk. During the mission, the crew will also conduct approximately 40 scientific experiments. The launch had faced multiple delays due to weather and technical issues. This mission is part of Isaacman’s Polaris Program and is SpaceX’s 14th crewed launch and its fifth private spaceflight.
